Course Overview
HAZID and HAZOP studies are the industry’s primary structured techniques for identifying hazards and operability problems in oil & gas facilities. This awareness-level course explains what each technique is, when it is applied in the project lifecycle, how studies are organized and facilitated, and what is expected of team members. Participants learn the guideword methodology, node-based analysis, and how findings are recorded, ranked, and closed out – preparing them to contribute effectively to HAZID and HAZOP workshops.
Every simulator in this course opens with a mandatory Risk Assessment Gate — identify the hazards, set the controls, and confirm the residual risk before the “permit to simulate” is issued — and every scenario injects live condition changes that demand dynamic risk assessment and Stop Work decisions, exactly as the field does.
Interactive Training Games
Operate the plant while naming every failure as its HAZOP deviation before you fight it.
Match real deviations to NO / MORE / LESS / REVERSE / AS WELL AS / OTHER THAN.
Work a NO FLOW deviation exactly as a study team member.
Deviation to close-out in the right order, every time.
Who Should Attend
- Engineers and designers joining HAZID/HAZOP teams
- Operations and maintenance representatives in studies
- Project and commissioning personnel
- HSE officers and technical safety staff
- Supervisors reviewing study actions
- Anyone needing to understand structured hazard studies
What You Will Learn
- Explain the purpose of HAZID and HAZOP and the difference between them.
- Position hazard studies within the project lifecycle and safety case.
- Describe study organization: team roles, terms of reference, and documentation.
- Apply HAZID guidewords to identify hazards at concept and design stages.
- Apply HAZOP guidewords (No, More, Less, Reverse, etc.) to process nodes.
- Interpret P&IDs sufficiently to follow node-based HAZOP analysis.
